Introduction

In our continuing effort to educate and make Radio Astronomy more accessible, the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA, http://www.qsl.net/SARA/ ) organized a 3-day event hosted by the NAIC/Arecibo Observatory and its Office for the Public Understanding of Science (OPUS). Participants had a tour of the Observatory facilities. A hands-on project was organized, the participants were divided in 4 groups and each had telescope time to observe HI spectra for a selected group of active galaxies. Later, the groups worked on the data reduction process for these observations. Members of the Arecibo staff made presentations about the science, instrumentation and outreach at Arecibo Observatory. SARA members made presentations describing their current projects.
